Chicago

Luke and I spent this past weekend in Chicago. I by no means grew up in the country but I do tend to consider myself a small town girl. So I was slightly out of my element in downtown Chicago. It was great, don't get me wrong but Luke had lots of entertainment at my expense. I could never fathom living down there. The thought of having our kids with me gave me panic attacks at what could go wrong in the traffic and busy streets. Meanwhile we saw a dad with a kid riding on tandem bike, pulling another kid in a bike trailer and the mom following with a little girl's bike hooked on to her own bike WEAVING in between cabs and speeding through the streets. I know this is their every day life and I applaud them for it. However, I enjoy my quiet little subdivision street where I can see the sky without breaking my neck looking over skyscrapers.

Those of you that know me well, know my "love" of public transportation. I had my first experience on the subway. After finally figuring out how to get my ticket to work so the turn style would actually move and getting on the train, I figured leaning against the rail was enough. So wrong. I went flying, I grabbed the rail with one hand but by then I was in full cartoon mode flailing around trying to catch my balance. Luckily the nice lady that I almost fell on, put her arms up to catch me so that I didn't end up in her lap. It was a nice little show for the car. Luke swears he tried to catch me, I'm pretty sure he was laughing too hard. The subway was so nice and convenient though!

We got into the hotel Friday night and decided to walk around. It wasn't completely dark yet but my sense of fear was in full alert. Luke couldn't understand. But Hello! Look at these alleys...look familiar? If not, check out an episode of CSI or Law and Order. I've seen them and at one point, during daylight thank goodness, we walked down them.

On Saturday we met up with our friends Mike and Tiffany and went to a Cubs game. yes, I am wearing a Cubs shirt. I was raised a Cubs fan and still want them to win...unless they're playing the Cardinals because we all know how much better the Cardinals are anyhow. :) We all wore Cub spirit except Luke. He refused, no matter how much I called him a party pooper. He just wouldn't do it. He wasn't thrilled about my buying the kids Cub baseballs either. It was a fun game but of course in true Cubbie fashion, they lost big time. :)

After the game we got back on the subway and I sat down immediately in a nice safe seat. Then we walked around downtown and did some sightseeing. It was a fantastic day for it!

Posing by the harbor.

Tiffany and I enjoyed some fantastic people watching this weekend. "That's just wrong." was certainly our phrase of choice.

I had some help packing and a little cheerio made it's way to the hotel to remind us of our babies getting spoiled by Grandma and Grandpa.

Another sign I was out of my element. I ordered the Eggplant salad. Does this look like a salad? Maybe not but DELICIOUS!

Sunday Morning we checked out and headed off on our journey to become warriors.....
