Just Like Daddy

So, we thought Corbin was doing better and was fever free and we were wrong. Friday, he got out of bed and looked miserable. Then he got sick all over Luke. So he stayed home....again. Luke was supposed to go out of town for the weekend but quickly realized Corbin was more than just fighting a cold.

He had been texting me throughout the day and decided to take Corbin back to the doctor. At one point Corbin fell asleep on the couch. Not many 17 month olds decided to just lay down and take a nap on the couch on their own. At least he sure doesn't!

The doctor swabbed for RSV, the flu and Strep and they were all negative. She agreed something was going on because Corbin was just so far gone from being himself and his fever just wouldn't go away. So I got a text from Luke that said he was taking Corbin for chest x-rays. I found my principal and told her I was leaving and I met them there.

The diagnosis was pneumonia in his lower left lung. This was not surprising to either of us because ever since Corbin was born, his mom has reminded us that Luke got pneumonia whenever he would get a bunch of teeth. Corbin got a bunch of teeth last week that are still working on coming all of the way in. We knew we were in for a long weekend so my family came and picked up Reagan for us. We were worried about her feeling neglected since we needed to focus on Corbin so much and we were also worried about what to do with her if we needed to run to the ER quickly. (Thank goodness we didn't need to!)
So Reagan got plenty of love up in Normal and Corbin slept.

Reagan got spoiled and Corbin slept. (Like her new slippers?)

Reagan slept a little too.

Saturday morning was rough. We were counting his breaths and nervous and worried about him not eating or drinking. He wasn't having wet diapers anymore and kept throwing up. He was given amoxicillin which in my opinion was not strong enough! I needed him on a steroid and a breathing machine and an IV for fluids! I wanted it all! It was ridiculous to me that the same medicine I give my kids for a sinus infection would be sufficient for pneumonia. But this is why I am not a doctor and this is also why I love our pediatrician. She knows what she is doing. It took a very close eye and after a couple doses of meds and lots of Tylenol for the fever, he's better. Not 100% but getting there. It's funny how you can go to pick up your child and be surprised to feel him cool. Luke and I have gotten so used to him with a fever that when it finally broke and we picked him up it was weird.

Finally upright and snacking with his best buddy. We're thrilled he's getting back on track and I will forever love amoxicillin!
